WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Come join artist Barbara Krans Jenkins painting either indoors, or En Plein Air (outdoors, as weather permits) in the beautiful mountain home of Cloudcroft, NM. Learn about combining pen & ink with colored pencil, creating work that has some “punch” to it! People often comment on Jenkins' work as she adds color … “Why, it seems to come to life as you add color!” Jenkins says: “We’ll start work indoors, all working on a common image to learn the skills I have to offer. Then each will choose their own subject from photos they bring in, borrow from my supply, or find live, and implement the techniques learned. Those who would like to, may work outdoors after the first couple days. There will be mini-demonstrations of a number of popular colored pencil techniques (such as “Layering”, “Grisaille”, & “Burnishing”). There will be tips on design & composition, exercises, a generous packet of handouts, step-by-step examples, pointers for taking and working from photographs." Ms. Jenkins’ work has been recently published (her eighth time!) in “The Ultimate Guide to Painting from PHOTOGRAPHS”. There will be lots of nurturing personal attention ! While previous drawing experience helps, it is not required as Jenkins will work with you at your individual skill level.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Join wildlife and botanical artist Barbara Krans Jenkins and learn why people exclaim "Why, when you add your color, the flowers seem to leap right off the paper!" Pen and ink line has always been a love of the artist who gladly shares how she uses line effectively to add "punch to her art." You'll learn how to use her Burnishing Technique with colored pencils to render flowers. Colored pencils are an easily portable, convenient, expressive, versatile, dry painting medium that are really growing in popularity all over the world. In this workshop, you'll also gain a deeper understanding of composition, pick up tips for special effects. We'll discuss how to take and use your own photographic references. Most importantly, you'll learn to see the world around you more deeply, even passionately. WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Ask any accomplished artist and they will assure you that to paint well, you must first know how to draw well. In this workshop with nationally acclaimed Wildlife and Botanical artist Barbara Krans Jenkins, you will learn how to sharpen your basic drawing skills, and how to use her Burnishing Technique with colored pencils over pen and ink line, to render flowers. Pen and ink line is a love of the artist who gladly shares how she uses line effectively to add "punch to her art". Colored pencils are a convenient, expressive, versatile, dry painting medium that are really growing in popularity. Youíll also gain a deeper understanding of composition, pick up tips for special effects and for working from photographic references. Most importantly, you'll learn to see the world around you more deeply, even passionately. You'll learn how to draw flowers that seem to leap right off your paper! Return students may bring something in progress to work on in class for guidance if they prefer.
